Weekend  Workshop in Portrait Photography:
Outdoor, Window, and Studio Lighting

                                              Gracie by Andrea Jones-BSPH Student

This workshop is designed to help the portrait photographer fine tune their skills. We will be doing outdoor, window light, and studio lighting techniques in this course. You may bring your own models of all ages and sizes (Child models of  all ages can attend the Saturday or Sunday sessions, but please have a parent or guardian that is not enrolled in the class attend with them). With the use of your 35mm SLR camera and color negative film or digital cameras and memory cards, we hope that you will be able to capture unique images of your family, friends, or our models that you will be proud of for years to come.

The timeline for this workshop will be as follows:

9:00-12:30 Meet at the school  and then go on location and take photographs with your Manual Digital Camera, or 35mm SLR Camera using color negative film. This will include outdoor portrait lighting techniques using reflectors and diffusers. This will also cover how to compose your subjects, what backgrounds to avoid, what backgrounds work, and  how to select the best light for your subject. You will also learn how to use the gray card or incident light meters to get perfectly exposed images.
12:30-1:30 Lunch Break
2:00-4:30 Learn the basics of window lighting and
outdoor portraits with late
afternoon light.

5:00-6:00 Have all your images critiqued by the instructor. We will download all your images so we may  send images to our models, and we will continue our discussion to find out where to get equipment and we will also review other famous portrait photographer's work.
